Windproof jackets use tightly woven fabrics (like nylon/polyester) or membranes (e.g., WINDSTOPPER®) to block airflow, preventing wind chill while maintaining breathability. Dense weaves or layered constructions create resistance against gusts without heavy insulation.

Windproof focuses on blocking airflow and retaining warmth, while waterproof prioritises water resistance (e.g., taped seams). Some windproof jackets have minimal water repellency but lack fully sealed constructions.

Ideal for high-intensity activities (running, climbing) in dry, windy conditions. Their lightweight design and breathability suit aerobic efforts better than bulkier waterproof shells.

Most repel light drizzle via DWR coatings but lack waterproof membranes. For sustained rain, layer with a waterproof shell or opt for hybrid designs with water-resistant fabrics.

Yes – most compress into stuff sacks or pockets due to lightweight fabrics (20-30D nylon), making them ideal for unpredictable weather.
